2. R-controlled Vowels

What is "R-Controlled Vowels"?

When a vowel is followed by the letter "r", the "r" changes the sound of the vowel. The "r" "controls" the vowel sound.

This is also called "Bossy-R" because the "r" is bossy — it changes the vowel sound!

Example: ar = a + r = /ɑːr/ (NOT just "a" or just "r")
