3. My View - Grandma and the Great Gourd summary:
Grandma was an old woman
who lived alone in a hut at the edge of an Indian village,
next to a deep jungle. She had two loyal dogs who protected her
and helped in her garden. One day, she received a
letter from her daughter who lived on the other side of the
jungle, inviting her to visit.
Although Grandma was nervous
about the dangerous animals in the jungle, she bravely set off.
On her way, she met three fierce animals one by one: a fox, a
bear, and a tiger. Each one wanted to eat her, but Grandma
cleverly tricked them by saying she was too
thin then, but would be much fatter and tastier after visiting
her daughter. They all agreed to wait for her return.
After a wonderful visit with her daughter
and grandchildren, Grandma knew she had to
return home — but then she was plump and the animals would
be waiting. Her daughter helped her think of a clever
plan: they hollowed out a giant gourd, Grandma climbed inside,
and her daughter sealed it shut. The gourd rolled through
the jungle, and the animals did not recognize it — they
even helped push it along!
However, the clever fox became suspicious, broke open
the gourd, and discovered Grandma. Just in time, Grandma called for
her dogs, Kalu and Bhulu, who raced into the jungle and chased the
fox away forever. Grandma returned home safely, thanked her
brave dogs, and cooked a delicious meal with vegetables from
her well-kept garden.
