3. Skim and scan skills
Instead of reading word by word, students will learn to quickly find main ideas (skim) and locate specific information (scan). This saves time and builds confidence, especially in tests.
4. Context clues
When meeting an unknown word, we want students to guess meaning from surrounding words before reaching for a dictionary. This builds independent readers.
