2. Gerund used as a noun

-
-

-
3. Gerund vs. Present Continuous (very simple tip)
-
Gerund = -ing word used as a thing (noun).
-
Swimming is fun. (Swimming = thing/activity)
-
-
Present continuous = be + verb-ing (action happening now).
-
She is swimming now. (is swimming = verb)
We can use like + verb-ing or like + to + verb.
They are both correct and the meaning is almost the same.
Examples:
-
I like swimming.
-
I like to swim.
(They both mean: I enjoy swimming.) -
She likes reading.
-
She likes to read.
-
They like playing basketball.
-
They like to play basketball.
4. A general rule:
When we talk about an activity:
I like swimming / dancing / singing / reading.I like to swim after school.
We like to play games on Friday.
