G3A1 – Week 2: Writing Assignment 1: What is a Diary?

A diary is a special book where you write about your day, your trips, your feelings, and what you did. It is like telling a story about your life. You usually write in the past tense (I went, I saw, I felt).

We use time words to show the order of events. These words help make your diary clear and easy to follow.

⏰ Common Time Words

• First  • Next • Then • After that • Finally / At the end

Sentence Examples

• First, I got on the plane.

• Next, I looked out the window.

• Then, I ate my lunch.

• After that, I visited the museum.

• Finally, I bought a souvenir.

• At the end, I felt happy and tired.

📝 Steps to Write a Diary

• 1. Write the Date

   Example: September 12, 2025

• 2. Greeting (optional)

   You can write 'Dear Diary,' or just start.

• 3. Say what happened

   Example: I went to the zoo with my family.

• 4. Use time words to show order

   Example: First, we saw elephants. Then, we ate ice cream.

• 5. Share your feelings

   Example: I felt excited because I saw a giraffe for the first time.

• 6. Closing sentence

   Example: It was a fun day. I want to go again!

Remember:

- Use past tense (I went, I saw, I felt).
- Write short, clear sentences.
- Add details and adjectives (big, beautiful, delicious).
- You can also draw a picture

📓 Diary Sample

Date: July 15, 2025

Body:
Today I went to the beach in Tainan with my cousins. First, we drove in the car for three hours. The road was long, but we sang songs and played games. Next, when we arrived at the beach, I saw the blue ocean and soft golden sand. The sun was very hot, so we put on sunscreen and wore our hats. Then, we ran to the water and played in the waves. After that, we built a big sandcastle with towers and a bridge. We also collected shells and little stones. Later, we ate lunch near the beach. I had fried rice and some cold juice. Finally, before going home, we watched the sunset. The sky turned orange, pink, and purple. I felt very happy and relaxed because it was a fun day with my family.

It was a wonderful trip to Tainan beach. I want to go back again next summer!
